
John Humphries BSc(Hons) VPBEng FBEng CEnv FIAS FRICS
John Humphries is a Corporate Fellow of the Association of Building Engineers, a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Chartered Environmentalist and Fellow of the IAAS. John was installed as Vice President of the ABE in May 2009.
John has in excess of 35 years experience in Building Control field and is currently Head of Building Control for the London Borough of Brent (Home of Wembley Stadium and an Olympic Borough) and is member of the London District Surveyors Association. He commenced his career in Building Control with Haringey Council in 1975 and gained a Building Control degree (with Honours) at the Polytechnic of Central London (now the University of Westminster) in 1979.
John has been an active member of the Association for over 30 years, joining the IAAS in 1980, and has served as Chair of Beds and Herts Branch from 1994 to 1997 and in 1998-99. He has also held posts of Branch Secretary and Treasurer for a number of years. In May 2007, John was co-opted onto Council, being elected as a Member of Council for a period of three years in May 2008.
John has contributed to draft and consultation documents and served as a member of staffing committee, interview panels for the Assessment of Professional Competence and disciplinary matters. Recently John has assisted with the Governance review and redrafting of Articles and Byelaws of the Association. John also has a keen interest in environmental matters and is ABE representative on the Board of the Society for the Environment (SocEnv) and Policy Forum.
Many of our members will have key roles in taking forward the climate change and sustainability agenda and helping to develop the infrastructure and buildings associated with the London 2012 Olympics. John will work to enhance, develop and promote the Association and seek to ensure that the ABE grows even stronger for the benefit of its members and the industry as a whole.
