Ron Cooke Hub Building
20 October 2011
The visit started with a short 360 degree presentation in the demonstration space within the main Hub foyer. The group then ventured outside to view the new academic and social buildings, study spaces and college accommodation. It was very interesting to here about the features required to achieve the ‘Very Good’ BREEAM rating which included designed-in recycling, extensive cycle parking and a surface water swale for the whole site which discharged to a lake and wetlands. Next stop was the outdoor study pods which are located in a stunning setting on the campus lake.
The tour concluded back inside the Hub building with a walk through the upper floor lecture and seminar facilities.
It’s a stunning building, well worth a visit and open 24hrs a day, further details at http://www.york.ac.uk/hub/
Many thanks to Richard Mcdowell at BDP Architects and Craig Wootton from Arup for their time and effort organising the tour.
