48th Annual Conference and Exhibition - Olympic Impact

The Association of Building Engineers is pleased to announce that its 48th Annual Conference and Exhibition will take place on 11-13 November 2010 at the Hilton Hotel, Docklands, London.

With the creation of the London 2012 Olympic Park now reaching its halfway mark, this year theme - Olympic Impact - will focus on looking into the groundbreaking sustainable technologies and resources used in its construction and the impact that this will have now and in the future. As well as a two-day conference programme, the event will also include a technical visit to the Olympic Park site (kindly sponsored by the Olympic Delivery Authority) where delegates will be able to see first hand the developments taking place.

The construction industry carries out the work that is the backbone of every civilised society. As we progress into the 21st Century, we are faced with new challenges in our efforts to build for today and plan for tomorrow, both nationally and internationally.

Organised by Coventry University, in partnership with the CIOB, the Third International World of Construction Project Management Conference will provide delegates with the opportunity to investigate findings from both the education sector and construction practice.

The conference programme will include a mixture of Keynote Speakers and parallel seminar sessions.

ABE Northern Region Training Event - Thursday 15 July 2010

Hard to Treat Homes

The Northern Region hosted a Hard to Treat Homes seminar in Gateshead presented by Mervyn Kirk MBEng, Marketing and Development Manager of Isothane Ltd.

As an overview the presentation provided delegates witht he latest market developments on how to insulate hard to treat homes and homes with hard to treat cavities using in-situ PUR/PIR (Polyurethane foams) insulation that can be applied to upgrade non-traditional house systems, high rise blocks, random stone properties and properties with sub 50mm cavities. The presentation included a number of case studies including a thermal imaging study.

The event was well attended by around 45 members from accross the region and was followed by a buffet and the usual opportunity for networking with colleagues and friends.
