Professional Interview in conjunction with the Degree
The BSc (Hons) Building Engineering degree along with other accredited degrees has been designed as an integral part of the routes to Corporate Membership for both Associate and Corporate members of the Association of Building Engineers. These degrees are designed to meet the Quality Assurance Agency's subject benchmark for graduates in Building, Engineering and Surveying and associated disciplines within the built environment. Members will have the opportunity to gain knowledge on the learning outcomes for building engineers as defined by the Construction Industry Board (CIB) Educational Framework during the academic process.
The 
application form, current CV, CPD Record and Personal Development Plan and further documents will be assessed to ensure that you meet the standards and competencies required prior to being invited for a professional interview. Success in gaining your degree will enable you to progress onto the professional interview and progress your membership of the ABE. Please ensure that you submit the following documents (in triplicate) for assessment.
- Completed application form with a current CV & evidence of CPD Record and your Personal Development Plan for the next 12 months.
- Academic Qualifications (copies).
Personal Statement:
This document may commence with an expansion of your current job role and encompass the following information:
- Achievements,
- Career highlights,
- Progression of responsibility,
- Involvement of example projects &
- Future career goals.
- Include any position(s) of responsibility held and for what period within a recognised field of building.
- Company flow chart.
You must submit a statement of your experience relevant to the construction industry and building engineering. This should give a clear indication of work undertaken and experience gained, since the completion of the degree, minimum 2 years if full-time. If the degree is studied part-time you will require a minimum of one year following completion of the degree.
Expansion of Works:
Please provide evidence of previous experience with regards to problem solving that will show your:
- Professional judgment,
- Awareness of current & proposed changes to ancillary legislation,
- Highlight your involvement in both professional & management undertakings relating to 2 or 3 previous projects.
- You may wish to include architect drawings, photographs or other evidence.
This information will be assessed in conjunction with your 
portfolio.
The portfolio of evidence must contain a signed letter from your employer/line manager certifying that the work represents your personal contribution.
