Routes to Membership

RouteChoosing the right path....

A number of pathways to membership exist. The cornerstone of the qualification process is competence, which is defined as a balance of structured development, qualifications and experience. For this reason the primary route to membership is based upon a demonstration of this competence by examination and interview.

All professionals seeking membership of the Association must complete an application form, which will need to be supported by two members of the Association. In addition applicants will need to provide a current CV, details of a planned programme of personal development and records of previous development undertaken.

Individuals can join as student members if they are studying a qualification in the Built Environment. More qualified or experienced professionals can become Technician, Associate and Graduate members and ultimately progress from there to full Corporate Membership.

All applicants for Corporate membership who will require an interview must attend the Membership Seminar. The seminar has been developed to advise candidates on their individual route to membership, assist them in the preparation of their application, and improve their chances of being successful.

If you have attended the membership seminar within the last couple of years but have not yet applied to become a member, you may continue under the previous assessment criteria as long as you submit your application and attend an interview before the end of 2012. All new applications will be based on the Key Competencies required for membership.

It is worth considering that all applications are dealt with on an individual basis and any questions should be directed to the Membership Team.
