Once a building is completed it becomes the responsibility of the Facilities Manager to ensure that all the building maintenance and repairs are carried out.
They may be employed directly by a client for one large premises or work for a practice looking after a number of commercial and institutional buildings including hospitals, sports arenas and schools.
A good understanding of the systems used in buildings – air conditioning, lighting, heating, security systems and plumbing – is required to make sure that the building is a safe and comfortable environment for use.
