ABE President 2010/11 - Simon Lawes
Simon was inaugurated President of the ABE on 18 May 2010 at the House of Lords.
Simon Lawes is a Corporate Fellow of the Association of Building Engineers, a Corporate Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a Member of the World Organisation of Building Officials. In addition he is a member of the London District Surveyors Association and a member of the Society for the Environment. Simon was installed as a Vice President of the ABE in May 2007.
Simon is the Head of Building Control for the London Borough of Hounslow. He leads the Building Control team of experienced Building Control Surveyors. Structural Engineers and Graduates to carry out their duties in a professional, impartial and fully accountable manner.
Simon commenced his career in Building Control with Dacorum Borough Council and then proceeded to Wycombe District Council. In 1999, he was awarded the 'White House Trophy' for the highest quality Assessment of Professional Competence from the Institute of Building Control (IBC). In 2003 Simon specialised and extended his technical knowledge of fire safety by becoming a Fire Safety Engineering Consultantant with International Fire Consultants Ltd. In this role Simon drafted and prepared Fire Safety Strategies for a number of leading high profile developments.
Entering back into Building Control, he utilised his depth of experience and skill to gain the position of Major Projects Senior Building Control Surveyor for the London Borough of Brent. Primariliy dealing with the new Wembley Stadium, Arena development and Wembley regeneration schemes.
Simon is an active Council Member of the ABE and has given advice on draft and consultive documents, sits on the interviewing panel of the ABE Professional Interview, and has attended numerous meetings and functions on behalf of the ABE.
Simon previously held the position of Vice Chairman within the Audit Committee and currently represents the ABE within the Building Control Alliance (BCA) and the Association of European Building Surveyors and Construction Experts (AEEBC).
