



Rhys has been a member of the ABE Council since May 2005. Prior to that, Rhys was an active member of the ABE Yorkshire Branch Committee from 2001 and was subsequently the Association's Regional Representative for Yorkshire and The Humber.
Rhys was elected a Vice-President of the ABE in May 2006 and was inaugurated President on 09 May 2008.
Rhys has carried out book reviews for the journal "Building Engineer" and in 2003 was part of a small team of prominent ABE members responsible for re-drafting the Association's published series of explanatory leaflets. Rhys currently sits as a board member of the Construction Industry Council for Yorkshire and the Humber, is a reader for the Queen's Anniversary Prizes panel and is Chairman of the ABE's Admission Standards Review Panel.
Rhys is Principal Director of Rhys Taylor and Associates Consulting engineers, Surveyors and Architectural Designers based in Dinnington, South Yorkshire.
Born in 1955, Rhys lives with his wife Anne and their two children just outside his hometown of Rotherham in South Yorkshire.
As well as being a Corporate Fellow of the ABE, Rhys is an Incorporated Engineer / Associate Member of the Institute of Structural Engineers and a Corporate Member of the Faculty of Party Wall Surveyors.
An experienced consulting Civil/Structural Engineer, major design projects with which he has had detailed involvement have included large steel and reinforced strutures for the National Coal Board/British Coal Coporation and the THORP Nuclear Reprocessing facility at Sellafield.
More recent projects include a new temple for the Sikh Community in Sheffield and numerous housing and commercial developments. Rhys Taylor and Associates were winners in the Domestic Extensions cetegory of the LABC "Built-in-Quality" Awards for South Yorkshire and Humberside in 2008, and Rhys has been invited to chair the Awards panel for 2009.
